There is so much to experience on the island Maui. This tour of Maui from Oahu covers a lot of it. You'll explore the scenic splendor of Haleakala Crater, Maui's highest peak. It's a fascinating volcano with incredible lava flows. The Haleakala National Park is also on the tour and it is a remarkable land. Here you'll see several different climates all in one gorgeous place. It's a special thing to witness as you see the landscape suddenly change from desert regions, to wilderness, to rain forests, and then to tropical coast lands. We'll also be taking you to the Iao Valley and Lahaina. This is a 12 hour tour filled with endless beauty and lots of adventure. Young and old will have great fun on this Haleakala, Maui Tour from Oahu.
The Haleakala Crater is an active 10,000 foot Volcano that currently sleeps peacefully on the eastern side of Maui. Large enough that it can be seen from anywhere on the island, Haleakala is known by native Hawaiians as the ''house of the sun.'' As the legend teaches us, the god Maui snared the sun, forcing it to slow its journey across the skies. This interesting story has had a lasting impression on many locals and tourist alike, as now you'll find several folks waking up early and visiting the volcano to watch the sun rise from the crater's peak. The surrounding park called the Haleakala National Forest was designated in 1980 as an International Biosphere Reserve. The effort to preserve the fragile ecosystem and its inhabitants continues each day. It is a wonderful land with unique beauty and species that you can't find anywhere else. Be sure to keep your cameras at the ready.
Next on your tour is the Iao Valley. Here you'll find beauty that you've never experienced before. The Iao Valley is popular for its dense rainforests, peaceful landscape, and outstanding vistas. Averaging 386 inches of rainfall per year, almost all of the plant life in the valley is a beautiful lush green. The tour of this remarkable valley features a visit to its most notable landmark, the Iao Needle rock formation. This 2,250 foot stone pillar stands proudly amid swirling waters within the core of the Pu'u Kukui Crater. It is so special that it was once used as a natural altar to the god 'Iao for the home it was named. The history in this valley is evident all over. This valley is also the burial place of the former rulers of Maui and the Kapawa, King of Hawaii.
Lying at the entrance to the Iao Valley is the cozy little town of Wailuku. For hundreds of years Wailuku was home to ancient priests and warriors. Now it is a sleepy tourist destinations filled with boutiques and shops. It was one of the few remaining genuine Hawaiian villages. One of the highlights of this destination is visiting the Ka'ahumanu Church. It was built in 1876 and was named in honor of Queen Ka'ahumanu. She was significant because of her influence in establishing Christianity on the islands. On Sundays the church still holds services in the native Hawaiian Tongue.
Finally you'll stop at the historic whaling village of Lahaina. This town was once known as Lele for its Hawaiian meaning of ''relentless sun.'' Needless to say the climate here is constantly sunny. Famous for its 40 plus art galleries Lahaina also boasts a quality choice in restaurants. Also in town is the massive Banyan Tree. It's the largest tree in the United States covering 200 feet in length and 60 feet in height. That's lager than the average city block! The tree is over a century old and continues to be the most notable landmark of the town. Lahaina, the former capital of Hawaii still maintains its rich history. It can be appreciated by following the historical trail through the town and by viewing its beautiful sunsets for which Maui is so renowned. Come take the Haleakala, Maui Tour from Oahu, it's a full day of fun, adventure, immense beauty, and memories that you and your group will never forget.
